FOODS TO AVOID:

We all know what foods are bad for us, and what foods are good for us. If we know this then why do we continue to make unhealthy food choices?  I was watching the news the other day, and a study was conducted on obese children that were 10 years old.  The studies concluded that these obese children had the arteries of a 45 year old!  How scary is that!  We need to teach our children how to make healthy food choices.

  • White Flour Products - Breads, baked goods, cereal, white pasta products.  Use Whole Grain bread instead.
  • Sugar - White, brown, fructose,  and corn syrup.  Avoid all sugars as much as possible (soda, candy, cakes, certain cereals, donuts, and ice cream).  There are some acceptable natural sweeteners that you can add to your food.  Example, I use Raw (Unfiltered) Honey with my oatmeal, but this should be used in moderation.  Check with your doctor to make sure that you're able to eat honey.
  • Fast Food (Greasy Burgers/Fries)
  • Alcohol - Avoid all alcoholic products if possible
  • Caffeine - Avoid anything with caffeine such as coffee, tea, or energy drinks.  Instead drink herbal (green) tea.
  • Hydrogenated Fats - Margarine, processed mayonnaise, and Crisco.
  • Potato Chips - Potatoes are good for you as long as you boil or bake them.  Also try to refrain from adding butter, bacon bits, or sour cream to your potato.  French fries and potato chips are bad for you.
  • Egg Yolks - you can substitute two egg whites for each egg yolk in many recipes that call for eggs.
