Foods for sleep

What you eat as your last meal affects the way you sleep at night.  Luckily there are certain foods that help you sleep.  Have you ever wondered why you get so sleepy after eating your Thanksgiving meal?  Turkey has an amino acid called Tryptophan.  Tryptophan is a natural sedative.

Here are a list of foods that will help you sleep at night:
  • Milk
  • Honey
  • Almonds
  • Bananas
  • Turkey
  • Brown Rice
  • Tuna
  • Oatmeal
  • Nuts
  • Whole Grain Crackers

Eating a small amount of these foods before going to bed can help you get to sleep.









Supplements for sleep

There are certain Herbs and Vitamins that you can buy at your local Vitamin Shop that help promote sleep:
  • Calcium supplements with Magnesium.  Calcium helps you sleep by calming the nervous system.  Magnesium is needed to balance with the calcium.  Calcium supplements is also good for those who are lactose intolerant.
  • Vitamin B Complex - Helps promote sleep

Herbs for sleep

There are several herbs that you can choose from to help you sleep at night.  It's best not to take the same herb on a regular basis. 
  • Valerian Root - Has a calming effect. 
  • Catnip - Mild sedative
  • Camomile - Drinking Camomile (in tea form) will help give you a calm feeling.
